North Haven Resort is a fly-in destination located on the beautiful Utik Lake in Northern Manitoba. North Haven has the sole fishing rights to Utik and it’s sister, Bear Lake which is a 10-minute floatplane ride away.
The resort can accommodate up to 24 guests so unless you want to hook up with your friends for a shore lunch, it’s rare to see another boat fishing next to you. The main lodge in a word is “amazing”! Multiple fireplaces will keep you warm as you order your breakfast. After a day of fishing, you can hang out in the large bar or get a workout in at the fitness center followed by a massage. If you want there is a game room with a pool table and shuffleboard. The dinner is a multi-course event and food is prepared to your liking and is delicious!
The cabins are spacious. We stayed in a two-bedroom cabin that shares a living room and bathroom. It had a fireplace which, if needed, is started by the staff before you wake up so the room is warm as you wake up to the daily delivery of coffee. The resort staff is fantastic.
5-star accommodations aside, the fishing is abundant with trophy Northern Pike ready to devour your lure. In our excursions to North Haven, we have consistently boated 50+ fish almost every day and have at times exceed over 100 fish caught and released during the day. Walleye are plentiful but unless you tell your guide that you want to focus only on Walleye, they will usually just fish for them to land just enough for a fantastic shore lunch.
There are a few spots to either troll or jig for Lake Trout but in the past, we’ve only done that later in the afternoon if we are tired and muscle weary from pulling in vast amounts of Pike.
The guides are all rated highly and most have years and years of experience guiding on Utik and Bear Lake. The guides we have used are some of the best in the business and we request them year after year. They don’t disappoint.
You can bring up your own gear or the resort will supply them for you at a small charge. The equipment is kept in great shape. The lures supplied by the guides can be a bit chewed up from all the Pike hits, But there is a good lure shop on sight to buy your own or do as I do and bring your own favorites.
All in all, North Haven is one of the best resorts we’ve visited and was the first to be awarded the Master Anglers of North America “Golden Lure Award” for excellence.
